| n. recitative | 14. polyphonic composition based on one main theme |
| o. sonata | 15. section of a musical work that sounds fairly complete and independent, but is part of a larger composition |
| p. stretto | 16. vocal line that imitates the rhythms and pitch fluctuations of speech |
| q. suite | 17. instrumental composition in several movements |
| r. trill | 18. ornament consisting of the rapid alternation of two tones that are a whole or half step apart |
